Special Issue: Alien species related information systems and information management

Call for papers

There is a need for accurate, detailed, and timely information on alien species (for example on their distribution, pathways of introduction, and impacts) to implement policies for the efficient prevention, early detection, rapid response, and management of biological invasions and also to evaluate management measures. In recognition of this need, a large number of information systems and online databases have been created documenting biological invasions on a national, supranational, or global scale but also for raising awareness and improving surveillance of biological invasions.

This Special Issue of the Management of Biological Invasions journal will include papers that:

• describe such information systems and the various approaches for collection, harmonization and integration of information;
• discuss related technical issues and developments including data publishing;
• give examples of collaboration of information systems through networking and interoperable web services;
• discuss sustainability and funding issues;
• prioritize future efforts through horizon scanning.

Large datasets related to the information systems can be published as online Supplementary Information. This provides opportunities for the citation of existing datasets and promotes transparency and open easy access to data by the scientific community.

Management of Biological Invasions is an Open Access journal. Authors retain the copyright of their articles, which can be copied, downloaded and freely distributed. The normal peer-review procedure will be followed for this Special Issues and manuscripts should be prepared according to the Journal Guidelines. Normal publication fees apply to all submissions of the Special Issue as in normal issues.
